Tri-County Speedway: A Tough One, But We’re Still Standing
This weekend’s trip to Tri-County Speedway was all right. Not the result we wanted, but the car came home in one piece and we’re still sitting on the points lead. That counts for something.
Qualifying Was Solid
We made some changes heading into this one, including a different motor in the No. 19. It showed right away. I qualified 7th, just half a tenth off the pole. Good starting spot, good feeling heading into the feature.
A Rough Start, Then a Fight Back
Green flag dropped and we lost a couple spots early. Worked our way back up to 8th, which is where the night really got interesting.
I had to pull in to avoid an accident in front of me and ended up squeezing into the wall in the process. We made some handling adjustments and went back out. The car ahead of us was clearly better at that point, and after that contact it was tough to keep up with him.
40 Laps of Clean Racing
Here’s the part I’m proud of. I fought hard and clean with that same car for about 40 laps straight. No shortcuts, no dirty moves. Just hard racing.
Eventually, I got the run on him, crossed him over, and made a clean crossover pass to get by. That’s the kind of move you want to make when you’re racing someone tough. Fair and square.
He tried to return the favor. Instead, he ended up wrecking me.
Coming Back From Last (Again)
That’s three times now this car has had to come back from dead last in one race. Three times.
We fought our way back up, battling for 7th, finishing 8th. Not exactly where we wanted to end the night, but the car was still in one piece and we raced hard the entire way. Learned a lot out there.
Points Lead Still Intact
The good news? We believe we’re still leading the points. Charlie was right behind us before the incident and ended up finishing two spots ahead of us when the dust settled, but we should still hold the lead by 2 points heading into next week.
Tight margin. Every lap matters from here.
Thank You
This team doesn’t do this without the people behind it. Huge thanks to Petey Hinson, Joe Robinson, and everyone who’s laid hands on this car to keep it running all season. Thanks to my grandparents and my parents for always being there.
Have to give a shout-out to our amazing partners, Wings and Wheels Foundation, Balance of Nature, Flo Racing, Drywater and Pitfit. And thank you, Kelly, P1 Web Development, for everything you do for this team.
Ready to put this one behind us and go racing again on June 20th.
