Langley Speedway opened in 1950 as a dirt track on the site of Dude Ranch, a former horse racing facility in Hampton, Virginia. In 1963, ex-racer and businessman Henry Klich leased the property for $1,000 and renamed it Langley Field Speedway. Klich paved the track in 1968 for $25,000, realizing NASCAR was abandoning dirt tracks.
The speedway hosted nine NASCAR Grand National Series races from 1964 to 1970, with legends like Richard Petty, David Pearson, and Ned Jarrett winning on both dirt and asphalt surfaces. In November 1970, Langley hosted the final Grand National race before the series was renamed Winston Cup. Former racer Bill Mullis purchased the track in 2009. Langley celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2025.
Located at 11 Dale Lemonds Drive in Hampton, Virginia, in front of NASA Langley Research Center, the 0.397 mile asphalt oval features 6 degrees of banking in the turns and 2 degrees on the straights. The track is 55 feet wide with seating for 6,000 fans.
Langley Speedway hosts NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly Saturday night racing from March through November. Twelve divisions rotate during the program, including Late Models, Modifieds, Grand Stocks, Legends, Super Streets, and Enduros. The track hosts the Hampton Heat 200, part of the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown series, along with Hampton Roads Kart Club events and drift competitions.
