Tri-County Motor Speedway opened in 1985 as a dirt track in Hudson, North Carolina. The facility was paved with asphalt in 1988. The track suspended weekly racing operations in 2010 and sat dormant for a decade, with the Southeast Super Trucks being the sole entity using the facility during this period. Shane and Shad Higgins purchased the speedway in late 2019 and brought weekly racing back starting in 2020. The new ownership made significant facility upgrades.
Located at 4405 Hickory Nut Ridge Road in Hudson near Granite Falls, North Carolina, five minutes from Interstate 40, the 0.4 mile banked asphalt oval is a NASCAR Home Track facility. The speedway offers a family-friendly atmosphere with general admission seating, a press box, and concession stands.
Tri-County Motor Speedway hosts NASCAR-sanctioned weekly Friday night racing. Late Models serve as the premier division. Additional divisions include Limited Late Models, Outlaws, Street Stocks, Carolina Mini Stocks, Renegades, Front Wheel Drive, and Crown Vic. The track hosts CARS Tour and South Atlantic Pro Series events and has served as a proving ground for rising racing talent.
